More than 120 students danced under the twinkling theme of “Northern Lights” to favorite DJ and former teacher Sarah Tourigney. This event is culmination of months of hard work by student council committee members.

Students organize the music, help design the tickets (a special thank you to Jennifer Stark for taking their ideas and creating beautiful tickets), council members sell all the tickets and then spend weeks preparing decorations, and finally taking two days transforming the gym and filling the snack tables with goodies.

Students dressed in their finest attire and danced the night away, many times all working themselves into large circles and taking turns showing off their moves and flips. A couple of congo lines formed their way around the gym throughout the night. In true spirit of the Northern Light’s theme Bryce Jones arrived in a polar bear costume!

“The best part of the night was watching all of these kids bond and truly make sure all that attended felt included. I saw kids from lots of different groups smiling and dancing together.

“It is so important that we have events like this that really show our strong sense of community. I am so grateful to James Faulkner for taking on the student council and helping these kids begin and continue this important tradition,” said Michele Caccavaro, teacher and chaperone.

This annual Winter Formal serves as a fundraiser for the student council and to “get students together and have fun, which is what high school is about,” Faulkner said.
